The Power of Hand-Washing to Prevent Coronavirus

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented surge of illnesses. It has weakened our immune system. We do have something to help us see through the onslaught. Learn more about it here!

How Helpful is Handwashing?

Hands are what connect us to our surroundings. The most likely body limb to contract any uninvited hitchhiker in the form of germs and viruses is through hands. The solution is washing your hands regularly.

Various studies show that washing hands regularly with soap and clean water reduces the risk of diarrhoeal diseases. But did you know that you can reduce the risk of contracting such diseases by a whopping 42–47%? Yes, you read that right!

So, how does washing hands help us combat Covid-19? Take a look below to know more!

Defeating Covid-19 by Keeping Your Hands Clean

Many medical experts suggest that not everyone does it right. Only 3 out of 5 people worldwide have basic facilities to clean their hands. But there is a right way to wash your hands, especially when defeating the Covid-19 virus. Here are the steps to ensure clean, sanitized hands:

  • Wet your hands sufficiently with clean water. You can set the temperature however you like - it has no real impact on the process.
  • Stir up a lather using a gel or liquid soap. The more you lather up, the better. It helps break through the lipid fat protection of the virus, rendering it vulnerable.
  • Scrub your hands for a good twenty seconds or more. Need help counting? You can sing the entirety of ‘Happy Birthday’ twice when you scour your hands.
  • Once you wash them underwater, dry your hands with dry paper towels. Dry hands are less likely to contract germs and contaminate than wet hands.
