Oral Health Problems in Old Age

Some of the most common oral health problems that older people face are given below!

Tooth Decay

Most people above the age of 60 have untreated cavities. When the cavity spreads, tooth decay happens. It is seen that almost two people out of 10 suffer from tooth decay in old age.

Gum Disease

Gingivitis is common in people who are above 65 years old. Around 2 out of 3 older adults are prone to this dental health issue. If not cured on time, Gingivitis can give rise to a more serious form of periodontitis.

Tooth Loss

Tooth decay and gum disease can lead to tooth loss. For people aged below 70, it’s common. For someone aged above 75, complete tooth loss is also prevalent. If you don’t get dentures on time, your nutrition will be compromised. You won’t be able to eat hard foods like fruits and vegetables.

Oral Cancer

The worst of all is oral cancer. It happens to people aged 60. There are several causes of oral cancer like excessive consumption of tobacco or alcohol, heavy exposure to son, weak immune system, etc.
